During a routine inspection

The Physical Disabilities Outreach Service operates from 10 Bramshurst, Bolton Road, London NW8 0AX, and provides support to a number of people living nearby. The CQC regulates only the domiciliary care support provided to four people living independently in flats at the same address. The service moved from Warden Road in September 2012, following a reorganisation. At the time of the inspection, an application was due from the provider to vary its registration and remove the reference to Warden Road.

We spoke with two people using the service. One of the other people did not wish to speak with us and the fourth was not able to. We spoke with the service manager and the two care workers on duty. We looked at the care records relating to the people receiving domiciliary care support and other records regarding the service.

The people we spoke with had no concerns relating to the care and support they received. One person said, 'The staff are really nice.' The other said, "They help me a lot."

We found that a compliance action relating to staff training and some other issues we had raised following our last inspection in March 2013, had been appropriately addressed by the provider.

During a routine inspection

The Physical Disabilities Outreach Service, formerly the provider's extra care provision, operates from 10 Bramshurst, Bolton Road, London NW8 0AX, providing support to a number of people living nearby. The service moved from Warden Road in September 2012, following a reorganisation. The CQC regulates the personal care provided to up to four people living independently in flats at the property. At the time of the inspection, an application was due from the provider to vary the details of the registration to accurately reflect the current circumstances.

People's care and support needs were assessed and reviewed annually or when their needs changed. The care provided was person-centred and individualised. A person receiving support was happy with the service and the care workers, saying, 'Yes, the staff are nice and help me a lot. They do what I need and are really friendly.' A social worker involved in people's care said they found the support provided by the service to be 'invaluable' in their work with people with complex needs.

We saw staff interacting well with people using the service, on warm and friendly terms. They were supported by local management and received training in various subject areas relevant to the service. However, we established that training in a number of key areas had not been provided and have set a compliance action accordingly. Staff received appropriate supervision and appraisal.
