During an inspection looking at part of the service

People's needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual care plan. Relatives spoke highly of the service and people told us they felt involved in the care and treatment they were given. One person said “They are very open. They always have time to talk about things”.

People were supported to be able to eat and drink sufficient amounts to meet their needs. People and relatives that we spoke with told us that people enjoyed the food and that there was enough choice. One person said "The food is brilliant”.

People who use the service were protected from the risk of abuse, because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening. Relatives we spoke with told us that they felt people were safe in the home. One person said “I have no concerns about safety. They take everything you say very seriously”.

There were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. People told us that the home was clean. One person said “This place is spotless”.

People were given support by the provider to make a comment or complaint. When we asked people if they knew how to make a complaint they told us that, if needed, they felt they would be able to. One person said “I would go to the office. I haven’t had a complaint but I know they would take an interest in what I have to say and not dismiss it”.

During an inspection in response to concerns

We spoke to a number of people who use the service about their experiences of the care they receive at Ingestre road. Some people told us they felt happy, were not lonely and felt well cared for and others were more reserved. A number of people stated that they 'mustn't grumble' and that they should 'consider themselves lucky to be there.'

Most people thought that the food was good, that they had enough choice and that were able to ask for more food and drink whenever they wanted throughout the day.

We visited the service in the late afternoon into the evening to ensure we were able to observe care and speak to people who use the service during the evening mealtime and observe the handover to night staff.

During a routine inspection

People who use the service told us that they were well cared for, comfortable and happy. They spoke about the activities that are arranged by the provider in a positive manner and told us that staff were kind, understanding and caring. We spoke to people in the rehabilitation unit and they explained to us that they felt supported by the staff and that they were helped in their recovery to ensure they were able to progress towards returning home.
