Effective

Good

31 July 2026

Effective – this means we looked for evidence that people’s care, treatment and support achieved good outcomes and promoted a good quality of life, based on best available evidence. This was an unrated service. At this assessment the rating has been rated good. This meant people’s outcomes were consistently good, and people’s feedback confirmed this.

This service scored 71 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.

Assessing needs

Score: 3

Staff made sure people’s care and treatment was effective by assessing and reviewing their health, care, wellbeing and communication needs with them. People had person centred care plans which were specific to their care needs. Documentation was kept up to date and staff felt it gave them the information they needed to provide the right support.

Delivering evidence-based care and treatment

Score: 3

People had access to health and social care services to meet their needs. There was a weekly GP ward round, and the service had a link with a member of staff at the local GP service who gave advice and support whenever needed. District Nurses visited the service daily to provide clinical support to people. One visiting professional told us, “I come here often. The staff know people well. It is one of my favourite homes to come to.”

How staff, teams and services work together

Score: 3

Staff worked well with external visiting professionals. Visiting professionals consistently told us staff were knowledgeable, skilled and understood people’s situation well. Some staff told us there can be difficulty between departments within the service working together with, at times, a sense of ‘that’s not my role.’ The registered manager did not recognise this from the oversight they have of the service and would continue to monitor and promote collaborative cross department working, as appropriate.

Supporting people to live healthier lives

Score: 3

Staff supported people to manage their health and wellbeing to maximise their independence, choice and control. They supported people to live healthier lives and where possible, reduce their future needs for care and support. Activities such as armchair exercises were offered within the service and people were encouraged to remain as independent as possible. People’s nutritional needs were met with staff having a good understanding of people’s different dietary needs including diabetes and textured diets.

Monitoring and improving outcomes

Score: 2

The management team did not always routinely monitor people’s care and treatment to continuously improve it. They did not always ensure that they met both clinical expectations and the expectations of people themselves. It could not be guaranteed people who required regular positional changes received this care. Documentation was unreliable in recording when people had positional changes. 1 person did not have a recording of a positional change for over 13 hours when they should have had a positional change every 4 hours. District Nurses advised another person should have a positional change every 2 hours, this was reflected in care planning, but staff were changing the person’s position every 4 hours. In response to this, the registered manager planned to introduce additional systems to check people’s positional changes have been made.

Staff told people about their rights around consent and respected these when delivering person-centred care and treatment. Staff ensured they always asked someone consent and respected people’s decision making. For those unable to make their own decisions, mental capacity assessments and best interest decisions were in place to ensure decisions could be made on the person’s behalf in their best interests.
