All Inspections

20 January 2011

During a routine inspection

A range of information was obtained that told us what people thought about the quality of the service provided.

On the site visit conducted on 20 January 2011 we spoke to two people who used the service. This was because at the current time the provider provided a service to six people and these had varying capacity to speak with us about their opinion of the quality of the service provided. People that were able, told us that overall they were happy living at the home and satisfied with the level of service provided.

Also on the site visit we spoke with a health professional. They told us that they felt the standard of care was good, but they felt the environment needed upgrading. They said people were clean, the home was homely and the staff were nice. They told us they didn't have any dealings with the manager or the owner as they normally dealt with the staff.

The service currently have an incident in safeguarding. This means there has been an incident at the home that is being investigated under safeguarding procedures to make sure people living at the service are safe. The current concern is that there is ineffective management at the home, which may place people at risk of harm. Actions were given to the provider to address the concerns. One, was to put an effective manager in place that had the appropriate skills, knowledge and training to manage the day to day running of the home by 19 January 2011 and the other, to request the services of a gas engineer to confirm that gas appliances were safe to use.

As part of the safeguarding investigation, health and safety inspectors had visited the home. The health and safety inspector made nine requirements in an improvement notice stating that the service must take action in respect of health and safety to make sure they comply with health and safety law.
