Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 30 July to 19 August 2026.
Montague House is a care home providing accommodation, nursing and personal care for people, including people living with dementia. There were 52 people living at the service at the time of our assessment.
At our last inspection, the provider was in breach of legal regulations relating to safe care and treatment and governance. At this assessment, we found sufficient improvements had been made and the provider was no longer in breach of these regulations.
People experienced personalised care from staff who understood them well and supported them to live meaningful and fulfilling lives. Staff demonstrated a detailed understanding of people's individual needs, preferences and life histories. There were many examples of compassionate, person-centred care, particularly for people living with dementia.
We identified opportunities for the provider to strengthen safeguarding recognition and reporting processes, improve how records evidenced people had been repositioned in line with their assessed needs, and further develop aspects of care planning and medicines oversight. There was no evidence people had experienced avoidable harm as a result of these concerns. The provider responded openly and positively to feedback and took action to review these areas.
The provider promoted people's independence and wellbeing through personalised activities, therapeutic interventions and community links. Staff supported people to remain active and engaged through exercise programmes, dementia-focused activities, religious services, community engagement opportunities and person-centred therapies. Leaders were visible and approachable, and there was evidence of a positive culture throughout the home. A staff member said, "[Registered Manager] is an excellent manager. Their door is always open, they lead by example and provide support whenever it's needed."
People's experience of this service
Overall, people had positive experiences of living at Montague House. Staff interacted with people in a calm, patient and respectful manner and adapting their approach to meet people's emotional and wellbeing needs. A relative told us, "There are enough staff to keep people safe, there is always somebody in the lounge and I see the same regular faces."
People were supported to make choices about their daily lives and maintain routines and interests that were important to them. The provider offered a wide range of activities, therapies and experiences designed around people's interests and preferences. People were encouraged to remain involved in decisions affecting their care and were given opportunities to contribute to the development of the service.
People were also supported to maintain relationships and connections which were important to them. This included involvement in community groups, religious services, therapeutic activities and opportunities to remain connected with aspects of their identity, interests and personal experiences. A person told us, "I like it here and I'm happy to be here."
