During a routine inspection

We were told by people using the service the carer always asked for consent when performing tasks. They said, 'She (the carer) knows me well and how I like things to be done'.

People we spoke with using the service told us they were 'very happy" and 'thoroughly satisfied' with the support provided and said the service provided was 'excellent'.

The agency had in place all the necessary equipment to support the operation of a small but busy domiciliary care agency.

We reviewed the recruitment records of six staff. We saw that all staff had been recruited using an effective and robust procedure that included all of the appropriate checks to ensure that the person being employed was of good character.

The manager could tell us about the regular checks that occurred to ensure people were receiving safe and appropriate care. The manager told us how these informal audits were used to inform and improve the quality of the service.

During a routine inspection

Although we were not able to speak directly to people who used this service we did speak to family members to ask their opinions about the support and care provided by JS Quality Care. They were all very happy with the service provided. Comments made included,

'They are very nice girls with a good understanding of the client'.

'Because we are an older generation we like things done our way and that has never presented a problem'.

'I am full of praise for all the staff and they are not constantly changing. This means my relative has continuity of care'.

We saw during our visit to this service that there were effective systems in place that ensured a good standard of care. The manager always 'matched' the staff to the person they were supporting, preferably in a location near to where the staff lived. This provided continuity of care with the minimum amount of travel between calls.

Every person had an up to date and relevant care plan that gave the support workers sufficient information to provide care relevant to the assessed needs.

A quality monitoring system and a complaints procedure were in place which ensured the provision of care was constant and appropriate.
