Our view of the service

Oban House is a 'care home' that provides care and support to older people and those living with dementia. People in care homes receive accommodation and nursing or personal care as a single package under one contractual agreement. The service accommodates up to 30 people in one adapted building. On the day of our assessment 19 people were living at the home. We carried out an off site assessment. Activity started on 04 January 2024 and ended on 31 January 2024. We looked at 3 quality statements. At our last inspection the service was rated inadequate. Following this assessment, considerable improvements have been made. Risks to people and the environment are now effectively managed. Accidents and incidents are recorded and investigated meaning people are now even more safe. Staff are recruited more safely and the general governance of the home has improved. As a result, the service is now rated good overall.

People's experience of this service

People told us they felt safe at Oban House. Comments included, "I feel safe because there are people around", "The staff are like my family now”. “I have all the things I need around me now.” "All the staff are kind and patient, I could not do the job they do”. A relative told us, "I have never seen Mum so happy.” "People told us they were involved in the management of risks. One person told us, "I couldn’t walk when I left hospital. With help from staff I can now walk". People were involved in their care plans and told us they were regularly reviewed. One person told us, "Yes, I am very involved." Relatives were also involved with people's care. Feedback from one relative said, "We are consulted with any reviews, they are very good." People told us there were enough staff to support them. One person said, "They (staff) always come quickly if I ring the bell. They respond fast”. People told us they were supported to remain independent. One person told us, “They like to do everything for me but I tell them what I can do myself but I know I can ask them to do things if I want them to”. People had access to other professionals. One relative told us, "Staff work closely with the GP practice here”.
