Our view of the service

At our last inspection (published 13 May 2021) the overall rating was Requires Improvement. At this assessment the rating has improved to Good. This assessment was undertaken on 26 February to 05 March 2024. Poplars Care Centre provides personal care and accommodation for up to 71 people. The service provides nursing care and most people who live there live with dementia. The service is also registered to provide support to people with learning disabilities and autistic people. We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and providers must have regard to it. ‘Right Support’ - Since our last inspection there was a new registered manager who had made improvements at the service. Staff had the information and guidance they needed to support people effectively. People were protected from the risk of abuse. People’s needs were assessed to ensure staff knew what support they needed. Best practice tools were used to undertake assessments. ‘Right Care’ - There was enough staff to provide safe care to people. Staff knew how to keep people safe and had the skills and training they needed. Staff sought people’s consent before providing people with care and respected their choices. People were encouraged and supported to maintain their independence as much as possible. Care was person centred and focused in individual needs. ‘Right Culture’ - People were protected from risks from the environment. Improvements had been made to the environment since our last inspection and the building was well maintained. Staff were happy in their role and well supported.
