Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 17 February to 20 March 2026. Raby Hall is a residential care home providing accommodation and personal care for a maximum of 25 people with a learning disability and autistic people. At the time of our assessment, 10 people were living at the service within individual or shared flats. Each flat was self-contained; however, the service also had multiple communal rooms for people to utilise. For example, each flat had a small kitchenette area for preparing drinks, snacks and simple meals, however there was also a larger communal kitchen/diner area where people chose to take their meals.

At the last assessment the rating was requires improvement and there were breaches of legal regulation with regards to consent and safe care and treatment. We undertook this assessment to check improvements had been made. We found improvements had been made and the overall rating has changed to good.

We assessed the provider against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

Improvements were needed to the environment to ensure all areas of the service were decorated and maintained to a high standard. A full refurbishment was underway but needed to be completed to enable staff to maintain the highest levels of cleanliness. Some improvements were also needed to demonstrate the service always worked in line with the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

Care plans reflected current best practice in how to support people with a learning disability and autistic people safely and effectively. Care plans were person centred and reflected people’s preferences in care. People were involved in developing and reviewing their care plan. Family members and other professionals were also consulted as part of this process when this was appropriate.

Medicines were administered safely; systems were in place to ensure people did not receive additional medication without a clear reason. The administration of additional medicines was closely monitored by the management team and professional involved in people’s care. Systems were in place to keep people safe from the risk of abuse and to learn lessons from any incidents

People were supported to attend medical appointments when needed and the provider worked positively with other agencies.

Staff felt well supported and the management team promoted an open and honest culture and were responsive to any feedback we gave during the assessment.
