People should be cared for in safe and accessible surroundings that support their health and welfare (outcome 10)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Are in safe, accessible surroundings that promote their wellbeing.

How this check was done

We looked at the personal care or treatment records of people who use the service, reviewed information sent to us by other organisations, carried out a visit on 22 October 2012 and observed how people were being cared for. We checked how people were cared for at each stage of their treatment and care, talked with carers and / or family members, talked with staff and talked with stakeholders.

Our judgement

People were living in safe, accessible surroundings that promote their wellbeing.

Reasons for our judgement

We found the home had been maintained and decorated for the comfort of the people living there. Aids and adaptations were available around the home to meet the needs of people. The home had grounds which were accessible to wheelchair users and people with mobility problems.

Hot water temperatures were checked throughout and found to be delivering water at a safe temperature in line with health and safety guidelines.

On the day we visited the home it was clean and tidy. A tour of the building confirmed bathroom and toilet areas were clean and hygienic. Hand washing dispensers were readily available for staff members involved in delivering personal care.

We found all equipment in use by the home was being serviced and maintained as required. Records were available confirming gas appliances and electrical facilities complied with statutory requirements.

Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service told us no safety issues were identified when they last visited the home.
