Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 23 September to 8 October 2025. The Belmont is a residential care home providing support to older people and younger adults some of whom were living with dementia, physical disabilities or sensory impairment. At the time of our assessment there were 69 people living at the service. The assessment was carried out to review concerns regarding standards of care. We found overall people were well cared for and people felt safe. The provider had embedded a culture of learning. Staff told us they felt supported to carry out their role and were able to raise concerns and suggestions, they were confident their concerns would be heard and acted upon. We found risks could be managed better. Records did not always contain enough detail to guide staff on how to manage and monitor risks. Governance systems were in place; however, they were not always effective in identifying shortfalls.

People's experience of this service

We spoke with people and relatives during our visit to gain their views and experience of care. We received mostly positive feedback. One person told us, “The staff are really kind people, anything you ask they oblige”. They told us the environment was clean and well maintained. We saw people engaging in activities and going on outings. Some people could not directly tell us about their experience, so we used the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI), a structured observation tool to help us understand their experience and assess whether they received good care. We found whilst some people received support in a timely manner, some people’s expression of need for support was not always acknowledged or acted upon.
