We found the home had a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment. Staff treated people as individuals, with kindness and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. The provider had safeguards in place to help prevent people from harms such as abuse or neglect.

The provider worked effectively and used evidenced based approaches to support people to live healthier lives and worked well with other health services to improve outcomes.

Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect, and feedback from peoples’ relatives, healthcare professionals and stakeholders about the home, management and staff was positive.

People's experience of this service

We spoke to 13 relatives of people who lived in the home. Overall, peoples’ relatives were complimentary about the safety and standard of the care their relatives received. Comments included, “Yes, my [relative] feels safe there. Every time I have had any contact with the staff there, I have felt reassured that my [relative] is definitely safe there.” Another relative commented, “I would say they are incredibly caring. They take time with the residents if they are not overly busy at the time. They are excellent actually.” Another relative told us, “The atmosphere in the home is good and it always is friendly. I have never walked in and found something that I did not expect to. The staff always are doing their best.”

Relatives told us the home met people’s needs, a relative commented, “I think they do a superb job with all the different residents and their needs and requirements.” Another said, “It is all very clean. They have a cleaner there who is very good and knows what belongs to my [relative]. [They] will spend time talking to my [relative] and is lovely with them.”

Relatives told us they could raise any issues with staff and managers. A relative said, “Obviously you will always find something, but every time I have raised something with them, it has been dealt with immediately.”

Some relatives felt the activities could be improved, and comments included, “I feel that there probably should be more activities. They do bingo and various forms of games. Singers have attended and a lady attends with a therapeutic dog. I don't know what range could be facilitated. I do think it is something that could be addressed a bit more.”
