Our view of the service
We carried out this assessment on 5 June 2026. We assessed 5 key questions; safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led. We inspected Chandlers Ford Dialysis Unit because it was last rated in June 2022. As this was an older rating, we returned to check the service was still performing well and meeting the needs of its patients.
We found the service to have a positive learning culture where patients and staff felt able to raise concerns. Incidents were investigated to identify learning and improve practice. Patients were protected from avoidable harm, and there were enough staff with the right skills and experience needed to deliver safe care.
Staff carried out detailed assessments of patients’ needs and involved them in decisions about their care and treatment. Patients were supported to understand their care, enabling them to provide informed consent.
Care and treatment were delivered in line with current evidence, national guidance and best practice. Leaders and staff shared a clear vision for the service, underpinned by a set of values that promoted equality, inclusion and high-quality care.
There was a positive culture of continuous learning and improvement, supported by effective governance arrangements and a commitment to ongoing service development.
However, we found some hazardous substances were not stored securely, as rear access doors were unlocked. The unsecured doors also allowed unauthorised access to the back of the unit and other areas of the building.
People's experience of this service
During the assessment, we spoke with 5 patients receiving dialysis, all of whom spoke positively about the kindness and compassion shown by staff. Patients told us they received clear information and guidance about their condition and treatment, which helped them understand their care and make informed decisions about their treatment options.
