All Inspections

25 March 2011

During a routine inspection

The people we spoke with had been involved in drawing up care plans that reflected their wishes. They had opportunity to self-direct their personal care and had been involved in decision-making in relation to their care, support and treatment. They held staff and managers in high regard, describing them as friendly, helpful and responsive to their needs. They said staff respected their rights to privacy, dignity and independence. Whilst there was opportunity for choice and control in their lives, they accepted the need for flexibility on their part around personal care routines to fit in with staff availability and other priorities. This was because most people were wheelchair dependent and two staff necessary to support them with personal care. People felt their health needs were met. They were happy with the physical environment though they felt some furniture and carpets showing signs of wear and tear should be replaced. There were mixed views about the adequacy of arrangements for social stimulation. People told us staff shortages and limited availability of transport was a constraint to community activities. One person expressed feeling isolated, at times, owing to the home's continuing low occupancy levels. They felt they needed further opportunities for social interaction with people outside the home.
