Our view of the service
Date of assessment: We visited the service on 4 and 15 September 2025. The service is a care home providing nursing and personal care to older people, some of whom lived with dementia. At the time of our assessment, 25 people were living at the service.
There were instances where safety was poorly managed. We identified concerns regarding the physical environment of the service, including fire safety, the safety of equipment and the management of premises. While risks to people were assessed, guidance on the control measures to reduce risk was not always sufficiently detailed. Although we found no evidence of people being harmed, these concerns indicated people were exposed to the risk of harm. We also found gaps in staff training. There were shortfalls in the governance of the service, including the effectiveness of quality assurance systems. These issues amounted to regulatory breaches concerning safe care and treatment, staffing and good governance. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found in this assessment.
In contrast, we also found multiple examples of good care and good practice. While we were concerned about some aspects of safety management, staff knew their obligations to safeguard people from abuse and reported concerns effectively. The service made sure people received their medicines safely and as prescribed. Staff knew people well and assessed and reviewed their needs regularly. Staff worked in partnership with other agencies in promoting people’s health and wellbeing. The care and treatment provided to people were tailored to their individual needs. The service managed complaints effectively. Leaders offered appropriate support to the staff team, who worked collaboratively when supporting people. The service had developed ways to support learning and improve the quality of care for people.
