Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 11 February 16 February 2026.
Hillsborough Residential Home provides personal care and support for up to 16 older people, some of whom may be living with dementia. The assessment was completed to check improvements had been made following our previous inspection.
The provider was previously in breach of the regulations in relation to safe care and treatment, recruitment and good governance. Improvements were found at this assessment and the provider was no longer in breach of the regulations.
The manager had made improvements at the service, and this was reflected in the organisation of the service and staff morale. Staff told us they were well supported and able to raise any concerns or ask for support if needed.
Medicines were mostly managed safely, and staff were trained and competent. Some improvements were required to ensure clearer guidance and recording, particularly around topical medicines and PRN (medicines to be used ‘when required’). Medicines were stored safely and medicine administration records were completed as required.
Assessments were completed before anyone was admitted to the service or following any change in needs. This enabled the manager to monitor if they were still able to meet people’s needs.
Staff knew people well and had a good understanding of how they preferred to be supported. There were enough staff available to meet people’s needs and use of agency staff had decreased. Recruitment checks were completed prior to new staff starting work.
We did identify some areas where further improvements were required including completing capacity assessments and updating risks in people’s care plans. We reported this to the manager who took immediate action to address these shortfalls.
