During an inspection in response to concerns

We spoke with people who use the service and their relatives. The majority of people who use the service made positive comments. People said that the home is a very caring place and the staff are nice, especially some staff from the 'agency'. Comments made by relatives were that staff are very helpful and polite and care staff were excellent at keeping track of health needs. The relative of one person said that a stated preference for same sex personal care was not adhered to and this was upsetting. Some people were not happy at the home, this was expressed by one person who said that this was the "worst" time of their life.

One person said that their key worker (designated care worker) was a 'special person'. A relative commented on the number of agency staff used and how they were not always aware of peoples care needs.

People who use the service and relatives spoken with said the food was 'lovely' and the food was enjoyed.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

People we spoke to said that staff treated them with dignity and respect and personal care is provided in a satisfactory manner. Some people were aware of a care plan, others were not. People had not viewed their care plan.

People said that if they had made a complaint or raised a concern, this had been dealt with effectively by the home.

During a routine inspection

People who use the service told us that staff in the home look after them well, although some staff are more approachable than others. People told us the food is good and indicated that they found their accommodation comfortable. People told us that they were not familiar with the complaints procedure but they knew who to talk to if they had a concern.
