All Inspections

18 January 2014

During a routine inspection

There were two people living in the home at the time of our visit. One person was at the home in the morning until late afternoon. They were happy to see us and staff had explained why we were there. They spent time with us talking about what they liked and disliked in the home and staff helped support them with this.

They interacted with staff in front of us and they were confident and assertive in their surroundings. Staff interacted in a caring way. They were confident and knowledgeable about past social and medical history and what care and support people required. The other person living in the home had gone in to the town centre for the day.

The staff were passionate, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about their roles and responsibilities. All three members of staff we met with made us feel welcome and were confident to be part of the inspection.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with two people using the service and two staff. The manager was not available on the day and we fed back to him after our visit.

People expressed their views and were involved in making decisions about their care and treatment. People we had spoken with told us that they had been asked about the menu, the activities that they wanted to be involved with and if they had any concerns.

Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare. We saw that people were supported and treated individually and saw records that showed people had been supported safely with their care.

We looked at various records kept at the home including how people were being kept safe, the training staff had received to meet people's needs and how the quality of the service had been monitored.

The provider may wish to note that we had not always been informed when there had been incidents between people that related to safeguarding them from harm.

People who spoke with us were able to discuss their life at the home and what they enjoyed about living there.

People said that they appreciate having their own rooms, and being able to choose how they are decorated. One person told us "I like my room'.

One person told us" I like going out. I do lots of things. I like woodwork at the moment".

People told us that they liked living at the home. One person said "It's nice here".

Two people who use the service told us that they felt safe at the home and that staff are "nice ".

People told us that the food was "good" and that there was plenty to eat at times that suited them. One person said "if I don't like something then the staff make me something else".

A member of staff told us " some people choose to have a set routine and others like to decide what they want to do on the actual day. It's their choice".

Another staff member told us " the staff have been here a long time. Some staff have worked here for or more years. Between us we have a wide range of experience".
