Archived: Carlisle Mencap

We found that Carlisle Mencap worked together with the people who used their services to ensure that people were cared for and supported to be as independent and autonomous as possible. People's written plans of care reflected this ethos and people told us that they made important decisions about their lives with the support of the staff. We saw that Carlisle Mencap worked closely with other providers and provided education and support for other professional organisations. People were looked after by well trained and supported professional staff. If they were not satisfied with the support they received they were aware that they could raise complaints and the complaints would be dealt with effectively.

From our observations we saw that people received the support they needed and were given choices about their care. We observed that staff treated people with respect and encouraged people to maintain their independence and control over their lives.
