Caring
Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. At our last assessment we rated this key question as good. At this assessment the rating has remained a good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect and involved as partners in their care.
This service scored 70 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
Kindness, compassion and dignity
The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.
Treating people as individuals
We did not look at Treating people as individuals during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Caring.
Independence, choice and control
The provider did not always promote people’s independence, so people did not always know their rights and have choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.
People were not always supported to be independent. For example, meals were prepared by a cook in the main house and bought down to people, rather than people being supported to make their own meals. This included teatime such as sandwiches and toast. This also meant people had a set mealtime which did not promote independence, choice and control. We observed people asking whether it was “teatime” during the inspection. Additionally, there was only one option displayed at lunchtime. The cook told us some people could have something else if they preferred, but this was not prepared at the same time.
We also observed staff completed tasks for people such as their own laundry, making cups of tea, and cleaning their rooms. Staff commented that people did not want to be involved in these tasks.
However, people told us they got up and went to bed when they liked. We observed staff commenting people could have their meals later if they were not ready. Some people chose to sit outside to eat their meal, and this was respected. People chose what activities they completed. For example, one person said they liked swimming and told us they went regularly.
