Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. This is the first assessment for this newly registered service. This key question has been rated good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.

Care records reflected people’s preferences, wishes and values. Support was delivered in a manner that promoted privacy, dignity and respect.

Staff described maintaining confidentiality, respecting privacy and supporting people in a dignified manner.

One person told us, "Staff are kind and caring, I have no concerns."

Treating people as individuals

The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics.

Care records included detailed information regarding people’s preferences, routines, personal history, relationships and religious beliefs.

Staff demonstrated a good understanding of people’s individuality and described adapting support to reflect their preferences and aspirations.

Independence, choice and control

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.

Care plans identified areas where people remained independent and provided guidance for staff to offer support without unnecessary intervention.

Staff described encouraging people to make choices and retain existing skills wherever possible.

One person said, "Yes they do, they help me if I need it."

Responding to people’s immediate needs

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress.

Staff described how they recognised changes in mood, behaviour, communication or presentation and escalated concerns when required.

The Registered Manager monitored visit arrangements and feedback to ensure support was delivered consistently and reliably.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Score: 3

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care.

Staff were supported to carry out their role effectively.

Staff spoke positively about management support and described the Registered Manager as approachable and responsive.

They confirmed they received supervision and opportunities to discuss concerns, wellbeing and development needs.
