Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 5 October 2025 to 17 October 2025
New Milton House is a residential care home providing accommodation and support to up to 40 people. At the time of our inspection there were 35 people using the service. This inspection was undertaken in response to concerns raised with the Care Quality Commission about poor care provision at New Milton House.
At the last inspection, the service was rated good in all areas. At this assessment the service remains good. We completed an assessment looking at all quality statements as this was the services first assessment under the single assessment framework.
The provider was not working in line with good practice guidance in all areas of medicines administration and management. They addressed this during our assessment and improved practice. We will assess the sustainability of these improvements at our next assessment.
The premises were very clean and there were no malodours.
We saw some consent forms had not been signed by either the person or their legally authorised representative. The provider addressed these forms and completed an audit of all consent forms before the end of our inspection.
The provider had positive relationships with health and social care professionals and had developed good community links with schools, colleges and other care providers.
Risks were assessed and as far as possible mitigated. When adverse events happened, they were thoroughly investigated and learning taken from them to minimise a risk of reoccurrence. The provider also worked with people to enable them to take positive risks to enhance their life experiences.
Staff had completed a wide range of training courses and at the time of our assessment, completion levels were good. Staff received leadership support through supervision and staff meetings.
The provider had positive development plans to improve their current service and hopefully support people for longer in the future.
People's experience of this service
Relatives were confident their family members were safe at the service and care was person-centred. They told us the premises were comfortable and secure. They liked the way staff knew who they and their family members were.
Relatives gave positive feedback about staff members and told us they believed there were enough staff deployed. While they believed staff were very caring, we had mixed feedback about how well their family members health and wellbeing had been monitored.
There was some confusion about roles within the management team while the registered manager was on extended leave, however all relatives who gave feedback knew who to approach should they have a problem.
