Our view of the service

We carried out this inspection from 7 to 24 July 2026. The service is a residential care home providing mental health support to people. There were 22 people living in the home at the time of our inspection. We inspected all 33 quality statements.

The provider was previously in breach of the legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment, staffing, person centred care and good governance. Improvements were found at this inspection, and the provider was no longer in breach of these regulations.

People received their medicines as prescribed. However, medicines were not always stored, documented, and administered safely. The provider started taking action during the inspection to address the shortfalls.

The provider was highly motivated to maintain a high level of care to people. People were protected and kept safe.People’s health conditions and associated risks were assessed and managed safely. Staff were recruited safely and received appropriate training and supervision. Staff were trained to raise and respond to safeguarding concerns both internally and to external agencies.

People’s needs were assessed and reviewed. People were supported by staff who treated them with kindness and respected their dignity. Staff ensured people’s care and support met individual needs and preferences.

There was a system in place for responding to concerns or complaints. A dedicated management team led the service which included a registered manager. Internal monitoring systems were effective in identifying quality concerns. Staff were able to raise concerns and told us managers were approachable and supportive.

People's experience of this service

We spoke with people and their relatives and used observation to assess whether people received good care. We observed staff were kind.

People told us they liked living in the home, there were activities available and they were listened to. One person told us, “I wouldn’t change anything about the home. I am treated with dignity and respect.” Another person told us, “There are lots of activities available since the activities co-ordinator has been in post.” Another person told us, “I have a voice. I speak up in the weekly community meetings.”

Relatives told us their loved ones were safe living in the home. They told us people were respected and treated with dignity. One relative told us, “My relative feels safe with the staff and the security at the home, especially the doors being, locked.” Another relative told us, “Our relative’s privacy and dignity is respected. Staff knock on the door and gain consent before providing care. They are aware of my relative’s preferences. We are 100 percent happy with the care provided.” Another relative told us, “Our relative was very reluctant to move to this home as they do not like change. The home was thoughtful and had the walls painted in our relative’s favourite colour and their favourite bed linen was put on the bed to make it feel homely, we were impressed. Initially, our relative was adamant they wanted to return to live with us, but now they wish to stay living at Uplands House.”

Relatives also told us they were happy with the improvements they had seen. They told us they are kept up to date with relevant information, and the provider is contactable if they have any concerns.
