All Inspections

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we looked at the care files for four people. We saw that in all cases up to date risk assessments and care plans were in place. People's capacity to make decisions had been considered and people had been asked about their likes and dislikes.

We observed a mealtime. People who needed assistance were given this, and the food served looked appetising. People were weighed regularly and if there were any concerns about their weight a GP or dietician were contacted.

We saw responses to the satisfaction survey the home had recently issued. People's comments included 'We are very happy with the care at The Coppice' and '[My relative] seems very happy and contented'.

All areas of the home and garden were well maintained. We saw that people's bedrooms were being redecorated and new furniture was purchased when required. The manager inspected the home on a daily basis and the maintenance person carried out any repairs that were required.

The home had a complaints policy that was brought to people's attention. We saw that any complaints that had been received were investigated and the manager gave written responses.

17 May 2012

During a routine inspection

We spoke with three people living at Coppice Nursing Home and two relatives of a person who was moving to the home. We also saw the results of a satisfaction survey for people and their relatives that had been carried out in January 2012.

One person told us that she had asked a care worker to put rollers in her hair on the morning of our visit, and she was pleased that this could be done. The relatives we spoke with told us that they had asked the manager if they could decorate their relative's room themselves. They said that this made their relative feel much easier about moving as they had been able to choose their own colour scheme, furniture, curtains and bedding. One relative, who had received training relating to their relative's condition, said that after discussion with the manager they were confident that Coppice Nursing Home would provide for their relative's needs.

Comments on the completed survey forms included "Nothing is too much trouble" and "If I have a problem or want to know anything [the manager] will take the time to sit and explain". We also saw comments such as "I am thoroughly happy with the care [my relative] receives" and "I have every confidence in the ability, motivation and dedication of both management and staff at The Coppice".
