Our view of the service
Date of the assessment: 11 and 12 August 2026. West Eaton Nursing Home is a care home with nursing, providing care for up to 33 older people, including those living with dementia and physical disabilities. There were 31 people living at the home at the time of the inspection.
The last rating for this service was good (published 23 April 2019). This comprehensive assessment was undertaken looking at all quality statements under the 5 key questions. It was conducted due to the length of time since our last rating. Following this assessment, the service rating has improved from good to outstanding.
People, their relatives and healthcare professionals told us that the way the service was led was exceptional and distinctive. Its vision and values were imaginative and people were at the heart of the service. Staff were motivated by and proud of the service. Performance management processes were effective, reviewed regularly, and reflected best practice. Leaders developed, discussed, promoted and implemented innovative ways of involving people in developing highquality, outstanding practice that was sustained over time. The service had a track record of being an excellent role model for other services. It worked in partnership with others to build seamless experiences for people based on good practice and people’s informed preferences.
People had been supported to improve their health, in areas such as mobility, nutrition and mental health, as a result of the support the staff had given them. The staff and management team worked exceptionally well with health professionals when people needed their help. As a result, people had been supported to improve their health and wellbeing, achieving positive outcomes through coordinated and person-centred care.
The provider was exceptional at treating people with kindness, empathy and compassion and in how they respected people’s privacy and dignity.The provider was exceptional at promoting people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.
Care was person-centred and unique and specific to each person. The provider supplied appropriate, accurate and up-to-date information in formats tailored to individual needs. People were supported to get out and about in the local community. Staff supported people to engage in a range of different activities of their choosing. People were supported to plan for important life changes, so they could have enough time to make informed decisions about their future, including at the end of their life.
People’s care plans were person-centred and clearly identified their care needs, preferences and routines. Risks associated with the provision of care and support were assessed and mitigated. Staff were deployed effectively to meet people’s needs. Medicines were administered safely.
People's experience of this service
People received outstanding care in a supportive and homely setting. People and their family members told us they felt their relatives were safe, well cared for and were happy.One person told us, “I feel very safe here, there are so many staff to help you and nothing is too much trouble.”
The atmosphere across the service was exceptionally positive and inclusive. People were supported by staff who knew them well, understood their communication needs, and enabled them to live meaningful and fulfilling lives within their local communities.
Community-based health and social care professionals were equally complimentary about the care home. A healthcare professional told us, “West Eaton are in general, a dream to work with.”
Some people could not directly tell us about their experience. We used a structured observation tool to assess whether they received good care. This approach showed people were included and listened to and staff consistently interacted positively with them.
