Our view of the service

The provider ensured people were safeguarded from the risk of abuse, neglect and avoidable harm. Management reported and investigated safeguarding concerns, and any improvements to staff practice were made when needed. People told us they felt safe living at the service, and we found staff managed risks to people’s health and wellbeing well. Some care documentation needed to be improved to ensure it was up to date and consistent.
Most people and relatives were happy with staffing levels and told us people received support when they needed it. Two people told us they sometimes experienced delays in receiving support during busier times. Staff felt the provider’s staffing levels were appropriate to meet people’s needs, however, some told us that when there was staff sickness or an emergency, there could be delays in providing people with support.
The provider used safe practices when recruiting staff to ensure they were suitable to support people living at the service. Staff received regular supervision and told us they were supported well.
Management and staff promoted a kind, caring culture, where people were actively encouraged to be independent and make choices about their lives when they could. There were a wide variety of activities and events available to people and staff encouraged them to take part. Relatives and friends were welcome at the service and were encouraged to join their loved ones for events and celebrations. The local community was also welcomed and involved with the service.
Management and staff prioritised providing people with a good quality of life. Through listening to people, providing person-centred care and collaborating with other agencies, they helped improve people’s health and wellbeing, the quality of their lives and supported people to achieve their goals.
