Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 22 April 2026. The service is a care home providing nursing care and support to adults living with mental health needs and/or learning disabilities or autistic spectrum disorder. This assessment was carried out due to the age of the rating for the service.
We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choice, independence and access to local communities that most people take for granted. We found the service provided care in a manner that met this guidance.
People received safe care that was based on their individually assessed needs. People were protected from the risk of abuse and care was provided by suitable numbers of appropriately skilled staff. The risk of infection was managed effectively and there was a positive learning culture at the service.
People’s health needs were met, and care was centred around each person and agreed with each individual and their relatives if appropriate. The requirements of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 were consistently followed.
People were treated with kindness and compassion by staff who had been safely recruited. People and staff felt listened to and involved with the service.
There were effective systems in place to monitor safety and quality at the service. There was a positive culture that promoted positive outcomes for people and the wellbeing of staff.
However, some improvements were required to ensure medicines were consistently managed safely.
People's experience of this service
People spoke positively about the care at Goldthorn Lodge. This included the care and support they received, the environment they lived in, the management team and the staff who supported them. One person described Goldthorn Lodge as, “It’s security, care, attention to detail, it’s a home.”
