Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 30 September to 11 November 2025 with on-site visits taking place on 30 September and 2 October 2025.
Hillgrove Residential Home is a residential care home providing accommodation and personal care to up to 23 people. There were 21 people living at the home, some of whom were living with dementia. This was a responsive assessment due to concerns we received about people’s safety. We found two breaches of the legal regulations in relation to people’s safe care and treatment, specifically how risks were assessed, safe environments, staff training and good governance. The provider was previously in breach of the legal regulation in relation to good governance. Improvements were not found at this assessment, and the provider remained in breach of this regulation. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment. The provider was registered with the CQC as the registered manager and the nominated individual. There had been a home manager in post-up who had recently left. A newly appointed manager started during our assessment. Staff treated people with dignity and respect. We received positive feedback about the staff working at the service from people and their loved ones. We observed kind and caring interactions.
People's experience of this service
People and their loved ones were positive about the quality of their care. People were treated with kindness and compassion. People’s loved ones told us they observed staff respecting people’s choices and they were encouraged to maintain relationships with family and friends. People’s relatives told us they were free to visit at any time and were always made to feel welcome.
People’s relatives told us they were involved in their care and were kept updated; some told us they had been involved in care plan reviews. Overall, people and their relatives told us they felt the care staff were knowledgeable and skilled at their jobs. Some comments included, “Definitely safely supported, it is such a relief that [relative] is safe there, no worries with anything here, just so grateful and relieved” and “We wanted a small place and minimal staff turnover. The staff I know have been there a long time.”
