All Inspections

30 January 2013

During a routine inspection

The home is built over two floors. On the day of inspection, we were advised not to visit the people who lived on the first floor due to an infection risk. So although we weren't able to speak to people, we were able to look at four of their care plans. The manager told us that the infection had been reported to the appropriate organisation.

We spoke with four people who lived on the ground floor. They all had positive comments about the care and support they received. One person told us 'I can't fault them.' The same person described the service as 'my home, not their home.'

We spoke with two relatives of the people who used the service. They were happy with the care and support their relative received. One relative told us that they thought the care was 'very good.'

We spoke with four members of staff and they told us they thought the care given was good and the people who lived there were treated with dignity and respect.

Three of the people we spoke with told us that the food was very good and they were able to make choices from a menu. We saw that staff helped people at meal times.

The staff had training in safeguarding and we saw a corporate safeguarding and whistle blowing policy was in place to support staff.

The staff we spoke with told us that they had supervision every month and felt supported by the management. We saw that all staff received training on a regular basis.

21 February 2012

During a routine inspection

We talked to people who use the service during our inspection conducted 23 February 2012 and they told us:

'Lots of people come in (to the home) and it's lovely to talk to new people';

'Staff are very good';

'By and large I have no complaints about this place. The moment I came in through the door I knew that this was the place for me. The building and the people were good and they still are to this day';

'This is not their home, it's mine';

'All staff's nice, everybody is nice to you here';

'They're marvellous';

'I think the queen ought to come and live here';

'My room is kept clean and tidy and they respect my belongings';

'I have my own key so every time I leave my room, like for meals, I can lock it to keep it private'.

We talked to some relatives during our inspection. One relative told us 'the home has been good right from the start. When we phoned to view the person we spoke to was very nice. We came three times unannounced to view before choosing it and we found it very welcoming and very safe for my [parent]'. The relative also commented on the way care staff kept her informed and how the family can visit any time and participate in coffee mornings and similar events.
