Our view of the service
Dates of assessment: 3 September 2026 to 16 September 2026. Manor Park Care Home is a 22 bedded residential care home, supporting people living with mental health issues. At the time of our assessment there were 19 people living at the service. We visited the service on 3 September 2026 and 7 September 2026. We carried out this assessment to check the provider had made the required improvements after our last assessment of the service.
The provider was in breach of 4 legal regulations in relation to safeguarding, staffing, safe care and treatment and good governance. There were widespread failures in relation to the leadership and oversight of the service.
Audits and checks were not robust, which impacted on the quality and safety of the service people received. Whilst most risks were assessed, there was a lack of evidence they were fully reviewed which highlighted the processes for learning lessons and making improvements were not effective. Processes for safeguarding people from abuse and poor care were not always robust. Improvements were required in how medicines were administered and monitored, although most people did receive their medicines as prescribed. There were enough staff to support people safely, and clear recruitment processes were in place. However, staff did not receive the necessary training, support and supervision they required to be able to fulfil their role effectively. Improvements were required to ensure the home was clean and well-maintained.
People’s needs were assessed before they started to use the service. There was a consistent staff team who knew people well. There were links with other health and social care professionals, and staff communicated appropriately with relatives and advocates. Staff demonstrated they were kind and caring, although we found some shortfalls which compromised people’s dignity and there was a focus on task-based interactions. There was a lack of meaningful opportunities for activities and community participation.
In instances where CQC have decided to take civil or criminal enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded.
People's experience of this service
Overall, people and relatives gave good feedback about the kind and caring nature of staff. They told us they were supported by consistent staff who knew them well and respected their choices. People and their relatives said they felt safe. Comments included, “They [staff] are good” and “[Name of relative] always looks happy and smiley.”
Our observations confirmed staff’s approach was generally caring and supportive.
People and relatives provided mixed feedback about opportunities for activities and going out in the community. Most people said there were limited opportunities available to them. People spoke positively about the choice and quality of the meals provided and were supported to choose alternatives and eat their meals when they chose to.
Relatives told us the service communicated clearly with them when required and they felt welcomed when they visited.
While people and relatives expressed general satisfaction with their care, our assessment found elements of care did not meet the expected standards.
