The George Brooker Care Society Limited is a care home providing accommodation, nursing, personal care and support to older people living with dementia and physical disabilities. The service specialises in supporting older people living with dementia. At the time of this assessment there were 42 people using the service.

There was a strong emphasis on providing people with an extremely caring service where their privacy, independence, choice and dignity were promoted and met. Staff treated people with kindness and compassion, such as using reassuring touch and comfort. Staff were very knowledgeable about people and were committed to ensuring their individual and diverse needs and preferences were met. Staff continuously sought and acted on people’s choices regarding their care, and these choices were valued. The provider supported staff wellbeing extremely well, which demonstrated they were valued. As a result, staff worked well as a team to ensure people’s needs were met in a caring and compassionate way.

Risk assessments and safety checks were in place. The home was clean and fresh, supported by effective cleaning schedules to minimise infection risks. Medicines were managed safely, with people were involved in any changes.

The provider collaborated and worked in partnership, sharing information and learning with partners to provide a service that worked seamlessly for people. They demonstrated a strong culture of continuous learning and innovation.

Staffing levels were sufficient to meet people’s needs. Staff were suitably recruited and received appropriate induction, supervision, and ongoing training. They had access to a wide range of learning opportunities, and their competencies were assessed to ensure they were able to carry out their roles safely and effectively.

The service was exceptionally well-led, with visible, inclusive and values-driven leadership. Leaders demonstrated strong oversight of the service and used effective governance systems, data and feedback to continuously monitor and improve quality and safety. There was a strong culture of openness, learning and accountability, with clear roles and responsibilities understood across the service. Leaders worked in partnership with people, relatives, staff and external professionals to drive improvement and ensure positive outcomes. Staff felt supported, valued and empowered, and this contributed to a well-managed service where person-centred care and continuous improvement were embedded in practice.
