Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 12 January to 21 January 2026.

Westerley Residential Care Home for the Elderly – Westcliff on Sea is a care home. People in care homes receive accommodation and personal care under one contractual agreement. CQC regulates both the premises, and the care provided, and both were looked at during this inspection. Westerley Residential Care Home for the Elderly – Westcliff on Sea provides a service for up to 20 older people, some of whom may be living with dementia. At the time of the inspection there were 14 people living at the service. Accommodation is provided over 2 floors and people have access to communal areas.

The assessment was completed to follow up on the last assessment to see if improvements had been made. The provider was previously in breach of the legal regulation in relation to medicines, premises and equipment, good governance and fit and proper persons employed. Improvements were found at this assessment in some areas, and the provider had met 2 of the breaches of these regulation. However, the provider continues to remain in breach of the legal regulation in relation to good governance and fit and proper persons employed. This assessment was unannounced.

In instances where CQC have decided to take civil or criminal enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded.

We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

People's experience of this service

People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice. Staff had a good understanding of people's preference of care and staff promoted people's independence.

A person told us, “I am happy living here. It is the perfect home for me.” A relative told us, “[Relative] is happy living there and likes the staff too. They are safe and I wouldn’t change anything for [relative].”
