Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 1 December 2025 to 9 December 2025. The Old Rectory Care Home is a care home providing personal care and accommodation to adults of all ages, some of whom were living with dementia. At the time of the inspection there were 19 people living at the home.

The inspection was completed due to the age of the rating. Therefore, a comprehensive inspection covering the 5 key questions, safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led was carried out.

During the inspection we spoke with people who lived at the home, their relatives, staff, the registered manager, and external healthcare professionals.

Improvements were required in risk management, environmental safety, infection control, and the safe management of medicines. People’s mental capacity was not assessed effectively and governance and oversight systems required improvement. However, staff reported and learnt from incidents. Safeguarding practices were understood, and staff were recruited safely. People’s needs were assessed, and people were supported to maintain their health and wellbeing. Staff consistently demonstrated kindness, empathy, and respect, promoting dignity and person-centred care. Staff responded promptly to people and care was tailored to individual needs. The service had a positive culture and staff felt supported to speak up.

The registered manager was responsive to our feedback and had taken swift action to address concerns, including making positive changes to the environment and committing to making improvements to governance processes and documentation.

The provider was in breach of 3 legal regulations relating to safety, governance and consent.

We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this inspection.

People's experience of this service

People shared that they liked living at The Old Rectory Care Home, they felt safe and were happy with the care they received. People received personalised care and support from a staff team who knew them well and understood their needs. One person told us, “They look after me and they know what they are doing.” People had access to activities and staff encouraged independence whilst promoting people’s dignity and privacy. People knew how to raise concerns but lacked opportunities to give formal feedback as there were not structured options such as questionnaires, surveys, or scheduled meetings in place.

People’s relatives told us staff were caring, friendly, and approachable and they would recommend the home.
