People should be protected from abuse and staff should respect their human rights (outcome 7)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Are protected from abuse, or the risk of abuse, and their human rights are respected and upheld.

How this check was done

We reviewed all the information we hold about this provider, carried out a visit on 20/01/2012, observed how people were being cared for, looked at records of people who use services, talked to staff, reviewed information from stakeholders and talked to people who use services.

Our judgement

There are systems in place so that people that use the service are protected from abuse.

User experience

People that were using the service did not give us any feedback regarding safeguarding matters.

The formal safeguarding document in the clinic’s policies and procedures related to another clinic. The organisation had clear internal procedures specific to the clinic to guide staff in managing potential safeguarding incidents that included a clear pathway for notifying local authorities of potential safeguarding incidents. Guidance on what to do in respect of any issue arising was available via policies and procedures and information on notice boards.

During discussions with staff, it was clear that they had a good understanding of safeguarding and were able to express their confidence in escalating issues to their manager. The registered manager was knowledgeable about safeguarding and what needed to be reported to ourselves and other bodies, such as the local authority and police.

All staff we talked with during our visit told us that they felt supported in their role in safeguarding and had undertaken recent training about child protection and safeguarding issues.
