Governance, management and sustainability
Staff and leaders told us of the systems in place to manage risks for patients, staff, equipment and the premises.
At the inspection on 8 May 2025, we found the practice had made the following improvements to comply with the regulation.
The required radiation protection information was available. The provider had sought and followed their radiation protection advisor’s recommendations to protect patients and staff during X-ray exposures.
The practice followed their recruitment policy and procedure to help them employ suitable staff. We reviewed 2 staff recruitment files and saw all the required checks, including appropriate references, professional indemnity and immunity to Hepatitis B, were in place. Newly appointed staff had a documented structured induction.
Systems had been introduced to review and ensure staff were up-to-date with their mandatory training and their continuing professional development required for their registration with the General Dental Council.
A new Legionella risk assessment had been carried out, and we saw the recommendations from this had been actioned.
We saw evidence that appropriate validation testing of decontamination equipment was now carried out in line with manufacturer’s instructions.
The practice had systems to review and investigate incidents and accidents. In response to a previous sharps injury, they had confirmed arrangements for staff to access appropriate advice and follow up in the event of further incidents.
Audits of radiography were undertaken at the appropriate intervals. We highlighted the clinicians should review and reflect on these to ensure ongoing improvements can be evidenced.
The practice had also made further improvements.Fire drills were now documented.
