Our view of the service

The assessment took place on 28 April 2026. This was the first inspection of the service since it registered to provide a regulated activity in July 2021.

We assessed all quality statements across the safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led key questions and have combined the scores for these areas to give an overall rating.

Spa Medica Sittingbourne is a specialist eye clinic and surgical centre. It diagnoses and treats a range of eye conditions and provides care for NHS and private patients aged 18 and over. The service mainly carries out cataract surgery, as well as other eye treatments and follow-up appointments.

During the previous 12 months, the service provided care for 2,276 patients. This included 874 cataract operations, as well as regular laser treatments and eye injections.

Staff were committed to meeting patients' individual needs and preferences. Leaders promoted a positive culture where staff felt able to raise concerns and share ideas to improve the service.

Patients were cared for safely, and staff knew how to identify and manage risks. Staff explained care and treatment clearly, helping patients understand their options and make informed decisions.

Patients were treated with kindness, dignity and respect. Staff took time to understand what was important to each person and involved them in decisions about their care. Information was provided in accessible formats, and the service worked to make sure care was available and fair for everyone who used it. Staff also told us they felt supported and valued by the organisation.
