Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 13 February 2025 to 26 February 2025. Job’s Close is a care home providing personal care and accommodation for up to 35 people run by a charitable organisation. At the time of this assessment the service was supporting 29 people, some who lived with dementia. This assessment was carried out following information of concern we had received about the quality of care. We found breaches of the legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment, good governance, staffing and fit and proper persons employed. We found no evidence that people had been harmed, however, systems were either not in place or robust enough to demonstrate governance was effectively managed.
We found medicines were not always stored, handled or managed safely because records relating to the administration of people’s medicines were not fully completed. This was not in line with best practice or the provider’s policy. We found significant concerns relating to environmental risks and fire safety. The environment had not been well maintained and risks we identified had not been assessed or mitigated.
The service lacked effective systems and processes for managerial oversight. Audits did not identify or action the issues we found at the service. People had support plans, but risks were not consistently identified, assessed and or well managed. Staff did not always have sufficient guidance to provide safe care to people with known health conditions. Auditing and quality assurance processes were ineffective. Records relating to people’s care and treatment were not always accurate or up to date to reflect people’s current needs. Staff were not always recruited safely.
We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
People's experience of this service
Most people and relatives were positive about the quality of the care they received. They felt safe with the staff members who supported them. However, some people and relatives told us they had not been involved in planning their care, reviews or feedback on the service. People said they received care from staff who were kind and compassionate and who treated them as individuals. People were supported by staff who understood their religious needs. One relative told us “We feel extremely happy with Job’s Close. My [relative] loves it there she’s got warmth, books, nice food (nothing fancy), TV and very nice books.”
People and relatives knew how to raise concerns if they needed to.
