Our view of the service

The Cornerstone is a ‘care home’. From this location a domiciliary care service also provided a supported living service for people in the community. Not everyone who used the service received personal care. CQC only inspects where people receive personal care. This is help with tasks related to personal hygiene and eating. Where they do, we also consider any wider social care provided. The service provides support to adults with learning disabilities and autistic people. At the time of this assessment 7 people were supported in 2 houses in the community. We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. 'Right support, right care, right culture' is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and providers must have regard to it. We carried out our on-site assessments on 6 February 2024 and 12 February 2024. Off site assessment activity started on 23 February 2024 and ended on 26 February 2024.

People's experience of this service

We spoke with 2 people and 4 relatives to gain their feedback about their experiences of the service. People told us they felt safe, had lots of friends and liked the way staff supported them. People felt they received appropriate support to maintain their independent living skills. Relatives felt their family members were safe and well looked after. They found staff to be friendly and approachable. Both people and relatives felt the management team were approachable and had no concerns about the service. People told us the service was well led. One person told us, "“I like it here and I have lots of friends. I feel safe and get on with some of the service users more than others. I haven't had any accidents. I take my medication with support and I know what I am taking. The best thing about living here is my bedroom and the quiet room as it can be quite noisy." A family member told us, "[Relative] goes to the day centre three times per week and they go out shopping. The staff encourage their independence." Another family member said, "Anything that concerns me I can make a complaint. It's well led and I am invited to reviews. Everything is ok and I wouldn't change anything."
