Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 6 to 16 October 2025. Bradbury House is a care home service providing short breaks for adults with physical and learning disabilities. This inspection was carried out in response to the rating of requires improvement at the last inspection.

We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and providers must have regard to it.

Right support – people were kept safe from risks of harm. The service now had effective systems to manage risks people experienced during periods of anxiety and distress. There were enough staff providing consistent care and support to people. Staff received good training and support to help them do their job well. Most areas of the service were accessible for people and adaptations had been made to ensure the building met people’s needs. The garden had a swing, which was able to safely accommodate a person using a wheelchair. However, access to the swing was up a steep grass bank, which was difficult for people to access in a wheelchair. The manager was waiting to find out whether they had secured funding to make the swing more accessible.

Right care – people now had support plans which reflected their needs. People and relatives told us staff were caring and respectful. The provider worked with health and social care professionals to ensure people’s care was planned in line with current guidance and best practice. Feedback from professional partners was positive about the way the service worked with them to meet people’s needs. We found some shortfalls in the way medicines were managed, for example, some guidance was not clear, and some medicines had not been labelled when opened. The manager took immediate action to make these improvements during the inspection.

Right culture – people and relatives knew who the management team were and told us they would be able to raise concerns if needed. Governance systems were now effective in identifying areas for improvement and ensuring these improvements were made. The service had a new management team in place and staff told us this had resulted in significant improvements to the organisation of the service and support for staff.
