The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.

People’s rights and independence were promoted, and this was reflected in feedback, our observations and people’s care records. Comments included, “I feel the home balances safety and independence well” and “A physiotherapist attends twice a week which has helped me with my walking. They help me to feel independent.”

People enjoyed being involved in activities and the provider had introduced a monthly ‘around the world day’, where people and staff explored different countries through themed food, music, stories, and activities. People, staff and relatives told us how much this was enjoyed and they hoped it would continue.

Staff spoke warmly about people and told us how they promoted their independence and encouraged them to make choices. Staff told us, “This is people’s home and it is important they are supported to be independent wherever possible.” We observed care being delivered in line with people’s preferences, which promoted their independence and choice.
