During a routine inspection

We spoke with four people who used the service. They told us that it was "excellent" and that the clinic provided a "very personal service".

People told us that they were treated with dignity and respect and that they were fully involved in planning their treatment and care. We found that people were provided with a good range of verbal and written information regarding their care.

We found that the clinic assessed people's health and care needs before providing them with a treatment plan that addressed their identified needs.

There were processes in place to ensure that the clinic was clean and that the risk of people acquiring an infection was managed. We spoke with people who told us that everything was clean and they had observed that staff wore appropriate protective clothing.

We found that the clinic had not ensured that the staff training matrix was maintained. Following the inspection we were provided with evidence that staff had either completed their required training or that arrangements had been made for them to do so.

The clinic had a complaints system that was promoted in their literature.

During an inspection in response to concerns

During our initial inspection, we were unable to speak with patients or clinical staff, as no clinics were taking place at that time. We undertook telephone interviews with patients who had attended the clinic for treatment and returned to the clinic on a separate day in order to speak with staff and undertake further observations.

Without exception, all the patients who spoke to us commented very positively and favourably on the standards of care and treatment provided. We were told that the clinic had been chosen based on recommendations or by direct referral from general practitioners. Staff were said to be professional and caring, providing information, advice and support in a dignified and respectful manner.

Patients indicated that they had been given information to enable them to make decisions and choices about their treatment and care, this included any risks and the benefits. All the patients advised us that they had the opportunity to give verbal consent before any investigations were carried out. Where minor surgical procedures had been carried out, patients recalled that they had signed consent forms prior to the procedure.

We were told that the communication between the medical staff and patient was good, with very detailed and prompt letters being copied to each patient. Patients felt that they were kept informed of their progress and that they were very satisfied with the services provided.
