Safeguarding

The provider shared concerns quickly and appropriately, and staff had received training on how to safeguard people from abuse and understood what this meant. The manager checked staff’s knowledge through regular quizzes and followed up any gaps in knowledge with relevant staff. The manager told us they supported people to safeguard themselves by educating people about online safety and risks, in line with Right Support, Right Care, Right Culture. There was a policy which outlined safeguarding procedures. This was detailed and contained the required information. However, some of the information within the policy was no longer relevant and up to date.

Safe and effective staffing

The provider made sure there were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff, who received effective support, supervision and development. They worked together well to provide safe care that met people’s individual needs. Staff were recruited safely, and all staff had completed a variety of training relevant to their role. There were processes to check staff’s knowledge and understanding of training courses, in line with ‘Right Support, Right Care, Right Culture’. People told us staff were punctual and that they received support from a small group of carers, which promoted continuity of care. One person told us, “If for any reason the carer can’t get there, there is a girl in the office who is a carer, and she will come instead. It doesn’t happen often, but it is good to know there is a back-up.” Another person told us, “They are punctual and very friendly and helpful, and they stay the full amount of time.” Staff appeared knowledgeable about their role and told us they felt supported by management.
