During a routine inspection

People who used the service were positive about the care and support they received. Staff told us they encouraged people to take part in household tasks such as baking and gardening. One person went out on a daily basis to collect milk and newspapers for the home. We observed people being offered choices by staff and staff waiting for their verbal consent before supporting them with their care. We saw staff interacting with people in a kind and sensitive way.

People were protected against the risk associated with medicines because the provider had appropriate arrangements in place to manage medicines.

Staff had not received any recent training, supervision or appraisals. Staff said they had felt supported and encouraged to do training in the past. The home was undergoing a change in ownership and management and the acting manager said they were aware of staff training needs.

People were made aware of the complaints system and it was provided in a format that met their needs.

People's personal records were not always accurate and fit for purpose. One person who was staying at the home temporarily in respite care, did not have a care plan or risk assessments in place.

During a routine inspection

St Michael's Lodge had seven residents at the time of our inspection. We spoke with five of them and they all made positive comments about the home, the staff and the catering. People in general were happy with the care and support they had received at the home. They told us that they could go to local shops, cafes and to the church when they wanted to.

We found that people were treated respectfully, their needs were assessed and their care was planned and delivered to meet the individual needs.

Staff members we spoke with told us that they enjoyed working at St Michael's Lodge.
