Our view of the service

We carried out this announced, off-site inspection on 1 May 2025.

Where we carry out an off-site assessment, we undertake a detailed review of the practice risk assessments, policies, staff records and other relevant documents. We gather feedback from patients, staff and stakeholders (where relevant). We carry out a remote visual assessment of the premises and have discussions with staff.

We found the practice had met regulations.

Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance, and infection control procedures were in place.

Overall the practice had systems to manage risks that were effective. Some improvements should be made in relation to fire safety and the facilities in the decontamination room.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our inspection, could access care, support and treatment when required.

Reid Family Dental Practice is part of Portman Dentex, a dental group provider. The practice is in Gosforth in Newcastle Upon Tyne and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces, were available near the practice.

The practice had 3 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, the dental team consisted of 4 dentists, 2 hygienists, 4 dental nurses (including 2 trainees), 1 receptionist and the practice manager.

During the inspection we spoke with 2 dentists, 1 dental nurse, 1 dental hygienist and the practice manager. One of the group’s Safety and Quality Specialist was supporting the practice.

Staff feedback forms were shared with the team ahead of the inspection, giving staff an opportunity to confidentially share their views about the practice. We received 11 responses, which were considered as part of the inspection.

People's experience of this service

Two weeks before our off-site inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We did not receive any direct patient feedback.

We saw recent patient feedback, gathered by the practice, that overall gave a positive perspective of the service and treatment they received.

We reviewed online patient feedback. Patients expressed high levels of satisfaction with the treatment they received.

The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
