Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 19 March 2026 to 13 April 2026. This included site visits on 19, 23 and 24 March 2026.

Sherbutt House is a residential care home providing accommodation and personal care for up to 19 people, including support for people with a learning disability and autistic people.

People were supported by exceptionally caring and skilled staff, who knew them well and treated them with great kindness and respect. There was a well-established team, who worked together to ensure people received high quality, person-centred care. Staff were particularly well supported, as the provider recognised the importance of staff wellbeing on their ability to provide consistent, person-centred care.

Staff and the management team were highly skilled at listening to people and involving them in the development of their care and the service overall. People had extensive opportunities to feedback about their care. Support was tailored around people’s individual needs and was adapted if their needs changed. Staff also supported people with a varied range of activities, holidays and trips of their choice, which enhanced their quality of life. People were actively involved in their local community.

The service was managed by a highly competent, knowledgeable and compassionate leadership team and we received very positive feedback about the registered manager. There was a very strong focus on innovation and continual improvement at the service.

Risks were well managed and risk assessments in place were regularly reviewed. Staff followed safe practice in relation to infection prevention and control and the environment was well-maintained.

Positive relationships had been built with other health and social care professionals to ensure people’s holistic needs were met. Appropriate referrals had been made for specialist support when required, and advice was followed. There had been positive outcomes for people, such as improvements in health and wellbeing, and regaining skills and confidence in managing health conditions.

Systems were in place to ensure people received their medicines, but we identified issues relating to medicines records and best practice. The provider took prompt action to address these issues.

The provider completed a comprehensive range of audits to monitor the quality of the service.

We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. The provider was working in line with these principles.
