The provider promoted people’s independence, and choice so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.People were supported with their independence. We observed people helping themselves to snacks and drinks and preparing meals with support.One person showed us their bedroom, which was arranged to suit their preferences and promote independence, with a visual guide for staff to help maintain its set up. We saw people enjoying personal choices, such as having a glass of wine or going out to purchase their favourite drink and snacks. One relative said, “[relative] can do a lot herself, they very much encourage her independence- more than at home!”

One staff member told us how people were involved in keeping their rooms clean. The staff member said they ensure the equipment people used is checked before use to ensure it is safe to use, for example, they made sure the vacuum cleaner is safe to use and emptied.
