Our view of the service
Date of inspection: 8 January 2026 to 3 February 2026.
Banbury Heights Nursing Home is a residential nursing home providing care to up to 59 people, some of whom live with dementia and other health conditions such as diabetes and Parkinsons. There were 41 people living at the service when we visited. An assessment has been undertaken of a service that is used by autistic people or people with a learning disability but is not registered as a specialist service. We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities which most people take for granted. The assessment was triggered by intelligence we received regarding concerns around care for people with diabetes. We reviewed people’s care records who suffered from diabetes. We found no concerns relating to diabetes care.
The service was in breach of legal regulation in relation to people’s safe care and treatment, the ways people’s medicines were managed, and governance of the service.
Medicines were not always managed safely, and fire evacuation protocols were not robust as they lacked crucial information in order to evacuate people safely in an emergency.
Risk assessments relating to people’s health, safety and welfare were not always in place, and documentation to support staff to mitigate risk was not robust.
Assessments of needs and care plan reviews included people and their families. We observed staff to be responsive, caring and kind in their interactions with people. People were treated with respect and staff protected their privacy and dignity.
The environment was clean and safe. Leaders supported staff well to carry out their roles, were visible and knowledgeable. Systems and processes were not always in place to monitor the quality and safety of the service.
We found the provider and registered managers to be responsive to our feedback throughout the course of the inspection and took action to address concerns raised.
