Our view of the service
Date of Inspection: 01 June 2026 to 08 June 2026. HMT Care 48 Albany Drive is a residential care home registered to support up to 7 people and specialises in providing care for individuals with a diagnosis of Huntington’s disease. At the time of our inspection 7 people were living at this service.
The service was delivering a high standard of specialist care that was personalised to the needs and wishes of people to ensure they received the best outcomes from their care.
People were supported by knowledgeable staff who had their clear guidance to make sure people received consistent evidence-based care to manage their health needs. Staff worked collaboratively with other stakeholders, to ensure people received joined up care as their needs changed.
People and their loved ones were involved in their care to ensure it was bespoke and allowed them opportunity to do the things that mattered to them. This included participating in the local community, maintaining important relationships and have day to day choice over their lives.
The environment was well maintained, safe and personalised to people’s needs. There were sufficient staff in place who were safely recruited, but some improvements were needed to ensure they had always been assessed as competent to perform certain tasks.
There was strong leadership at the service who had a clear vision and were highly knowledgeable an passionate about the people they supported. They led a team that promoted kindness and compassion at every opportunity and advocated for people and their quality of life. There were strong governance arrangements which ensured care being delivered remained of a high standard and was driven by the voice of people and their families. The service was an active participant both in their local community, and the wider Huntington’s Disease community to continually improve the quality of care being provided.

We received highly positive feedback about the quality of care being delivered. People and families told us about the positive difference individual staff members and the service as a whole had made to their lives. People received a level of care that reflected their diverse and changing needs, was personalised to them and was provided with kindness and dignity.
One person told us, “Things are very organised. I am happy here. The staff are really nice”. A relative added, “They give genuinely good care for Huntington’s Disease because they really understand the implications. They treat my loved one with respect and as a person”. Another relative told us, “The service is like my relative’s home and people just happen to be there to support her. The care and knowing they are safe takes massive weight off my mind. It is a fantastic service and I would recommend to others.”
Visiting professionals told us they also observed people receiving a high quality of care and one stakeholder told us, “The home always feels like it belongs to the residents, and the staff are there to assist. Bedrooms are personalised and residents seem very comfortable, either in their own rooms or communal space. When I visit to see a patient, other residents who recognise me will say hello, talk about recent events. It is a very friendly atmosphere.”
