Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 23 February 2026 to Thursday 12 March.

Kings Den is a residential care home providing accommodation for persons who require nursing or personal care for up to 4 people. The service provides support to people with a learning disability and autistic people. At the time of our inspection there were 4 people using the service supported in one adapted building.

At our last assessment in June 2022, we rated the service requires improvement overall. The provider was previously in breach of 3 legal regulations relating to safe care and treatment, fit and proper persons employed and good governance. At this assessment, improvements had been made and the provider was no longer in breach of these regulations. At this assessment we looked at all 33 quality statements and provided the service with a new overall rating.

We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

During the assessment we visited the service, spoke with people, staff and management. We reviewed people’s care records, risk assessments and medicines records. We also looked at audits, policies and training records.

We identified a concern relating to the environment, where the provider was not compliant with HSE (Health and Safety Executive) guidance. We raised this with the registered manager who took immediate action to resolve the issue.

Staff enabled people to share feedback and ideas, or raise complaints about their care, treatment and support. Staff involved people in decisions about their care and told them what had changed as a result.

Safeguarding procedures were in place. The service learned from accidents, incidents and events. Recruitment processes were now established and operated effectively. People received their medicines as prescribed, and processes for ensuring safe monitoring of medicines were now in place. Governance systems had now been strengthened.

People's experience of this service

We observed staff had friendly and positive relationships with people. People communicated they felt safe at the service. People were involved in planning their care and had developed good relationships with staff who they held in high regard. One person said, “The best thing about living here is how much I am supported…I feel safe here. My home is [a] safe place."

People also benefited from a range of activities and experiences, which had a positive impact on their lives. Staff consistently interacted positively with people during our visit. People knew how to give feedback and were confident that staff took it seriously and acted on it. People received fair and equal care and treatment. The registered manager said, “I feel very privileged to be in a home that takes the approach it does and be part of [people’s lives] that are living here.”
