Our view of the service

Maxey House Residential Home is a residential care home providing personal care for up to 31 people aged 65 and over, some of whom live with dementia. Maxey House Residential Home is an old building with extensive grounds. At the time of our assessment visits 15 people lived at Maxey House Residential Home, however, all people had moved out of the service and into new accommodation before our assessment was completed. Our assessment commenced on 20 May 2024 and was completed on 18 November 2024.

We completed this assessment in response to concerns we had received about the service. We looked at quality statements relating to areas in safe and well-led. At our last inspection in January 2024, we identified breaches of Regulation 18 (2) (Notifications of other incidents). At this inspection we identified breaches in Regulation 12 (Safe care and treatment) Regulation 15 (Premises and environment) and Regulation 17 (Good governance).

We told the provider they needed to make improvements. Before our assessment was completed the provider submitted an application to remove their registration and close the service, therefore this service is no longer operating.

People's experience of this service

At the time of our assessment, people using this service were being supported by social care staff and the local authority to move out of the service into suitable accommodation. This was because the local authority were not assured people were receiving safe care and treatment at this service. Although the local authority did not provide funding for all people living at this service, they provided the same guidance and support to all people at the service. Before our assessment was completed, all people living at the service had decided to move into alternative accommodation. During our visit people still living at the service were being supported daily by social workers, local authority staff and relatives. We were aware and observed that this was a particularly difficult time for people trying to navigate this transition and make arrangements for where they would be moving to next. Due to this, it was decided that it was not appropriate to expect people to meet individually with inspectors to discuss the service, unless people expressed a wish to do so.
